What is Eldas?

Enterprise Level Data Access Services ( Eldas ) are J2EE based Web and Grid Data Access Services that allow multiple client connections to multiple databases. Eldas Grid Data Access Services are based on the OGSI specifications. Eldas Web Services provide an alternative interface to access data resources.
By basing Eldas on J2EE, Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) Session Beans and established design patterns, Eldas has an architectural flexibility which allows it to support both Web Services and Grid Services interfaces. Indeed Eldas is able to support any interface specification that a user may require. This feature is of particular value in the face of evolving standards and specifications such as the move from OGSI to WSRF .

Eldas Key Features :

  • Ease of Use – Deploy and configure services using a straight-forward graphical interface.
  • Interface Independence – Separation of core functionality and interfaces using the J2EE architecture allows service invocation using both Grid and Web Services. Eldas can be readily adapted to work with other interface specifications.
  • Web and Grid Service Based– Eldas Web Services are based on J2EE, W3C and WSDL standards. Eldas Grid Services are based on OGSI, but not reliant on the Globus Toolkit. The Eldas architecture can be readily and easily adapted to allow data services to be exposed using any interface standard, such as WSRF .
  • Machine Independence – Java allows the deployment and provision of services across multiple machine architectures. Eldas is supported on Linux, Solaris and Windows.
  • Robust – Building on the established JBoss Java container environments guarantees a secure, robust, transactional product with the minimum of development effort.
  • Multi-Access – Access to both Relational and XML databases will be possible across multiple institutions. The modular design encapsulates and takes full responsibility for database and data source specifics. Eldas 2.0 provides support for MySQL , IBM’s DB2, Oracle 9i , Microsoft SQLServer and PostgreSQL .
  • Extensible – Component Architecture allows Eldas to be easily extended to more enhanced services as the user requires e.g. data mining, data annotation and archiving.
  • Secure – Eldas 2.0 uses GSI Message Level Security and https encryption to provide secure data access services. Eldas 2.0 comes with a graphical tool to allow secure services to be set up and deployed quickly and easily.

Graphical User Interfaces

Eldas has several unique features to allow ease of installation, deployment and use.

These include the Eldas Deploy Tool, and the Eldas Query Tool.

Command Line Clients and API

Eldas is supplied with command line client examples showing how to use the Web and Grid Service Eldas API.
