Introduction
The edikt2 webpage is a WikiWeb which is maintained by the edikt2 project members. As a public visitor you can browse any of the pages that you have access to, but not edit any pages. If you have any problems accessing the site, please Contact us. If you are a member of the edikt2 team, you may also find the Edikt2UserGuide useful.
We also have a mailing list for people who are interested in edikt2 activities. You can find the web-based interface for the mailing list at https://www.edikt.org.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo. This requires that you have already logged in via EASE. However, the mailing list can also be accessed via emailed commands (see below).
Website
The edikt2 interface is split into three sections. The top section contains your username (if logged in), the current page and the main navigation links. The middle section contains the main content of the page. The lowermost section includes a repeat of the toolbar, again, only if you are logged in.
If you have an EASE account then you can create an account on this site. An account allows you to subscribe to a page, which will send you a message when the page is changed. It also allows you to set you own personal bookmarks for the site, which appear along side the links at the top.
To create an account, click the "create an account" link on the Home page. This will take you to a page which will ask for your UUN, email and a Wiki Name, which should consist of your first and last names with no spaces.
Once you account has been created, you can log onto edikt2 by clikcing the "log in with EASE" link on the Home page.
Subscribing to a page
Subscribing to a page will email you when any changes occur to that page. To subscribe to a page simply navigate to that page and click the "Subscribe" link in the toolbar.
Add Link
A link to any page can be added to the navigation bar at the top of every page. To add a page, navigate to that page and click the "Add Link" button in the toolbar. The page title will then be added to your navigation bar.
Mailing Lists
The edikt2 mailing lists are managed using Mailman (http://www.list.org). This software has two interfaces: web-based and email-based. The login system for the web-based interface has been adapted to use EASE as its login mechanism. Therefore, only users with EASE accounts can use the web-based interface. Anyone can use the email-based interface.
Subscribing to a List
When you subscribe to a list, you will be sent every email that is sent to that list. These emails either arrive separately or as a summary digest.
Web-Based Interface
Subscribing via the web based interface can be done by visiting https://www.edikt.org.uk/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo and clicking on the list you wish to subscribe to. You can then fill in the details on the page to subscribe. The list may require confirmation of your email address and instructions will be provided in an email sent to your subscription address. In addition, the list may also require the list moderators to permit your subscription. An email will inform you if this is the case and the outcome of the request will also be confirmed by email. You should contact the list manager if you have any queries about this process.
Email-Based Interface
To subscribe to a mailing list via the email interface simply send an email to [list name]-join@lists.edikt.org, replacing [list name] with the appropriate list name. Once you have done this, the procedure is as the web-interface. By subscribing via email, you will not be able to use the web interface, even if you have EASE access. There is no functional difference between the web and email interface, but if you have EASE access then it is recommended you subscribe via the web interface as you can use both email- and web-based interfaces.
Unsubscribing from a List
If you unsubscribe from a list, you will not receive any further emails from that list. Unsubscribing from a list does not affect your status on other lists.
Web-Based Interface
Log onto your personal page for that list and click "Unsubscribe".
Email-Based Interface
Send an email to [list name]-leave@lists.edikt.org, replacing [list name] with the appropriate list name.
Other Features
There are several other functions that may be of use to you as a edikt2 mailing list subscriber. All these can be changed via your personal mailing list page or via the email interface. As the web-interface is self-explanatory for these features, their use via the web-interface will not be described here. Features can be changed by sending an email to [list name]-request@lists.edikt.org, replacing [list name] with the appropriate list name. To receive help on these commands send an email to [list name]-request@lists.edikt.org with the word "help" in the subject line. This will send you an email with further instructions.
Useful options might be:
digest mode: Instead of receiving each email individually, you can choose to receive a digest email. These emails are sent once the archive reaches a certain size. This means it may be some time before you receive an email on a quiet emailing list that is used for small announcements only.
Get MIME or Plain Text Digests: Choose whether to receive plain text or MIME (i.e. HTML) messages.
